Tamiya - Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec

Postby Brad » Sat Dec 12, 2009 11:35 pm

Just completed by Nick...(and he didn't want to set-up his own account-so he asked that I post this)...his 1/24 scale Tamiya Nissan Skyline GT-R V-Spec, build OOB with a few body modifications, thanks to Squadron Green Putty...

Nick spent considerable time filling and smoothing-out the license plate area on the front bumper and removing and filling the rear turn signals, which originally occupied the space between the rear lenses and bumper.

The kit was airbrushed with Testor's "Colors by Boyd" True Blue Pearl then hand brushed with Future...which promptly shattered... ...Nick worked around this by subsequently airbrushing two additional heavy coats of Future, which settled into the cracks, leaving it smooth and shiny... :D

The undercarriage was detailed by brush painting details and the steering is fully pose-able.

Preferring the look of the newer style blacked-out rims, Nick painted the kit supplied rims with semi-gloss black.

The completed kit will be on the display table for the January meeting... :)

Comments welcome,

Cheers
Brad

Excellent job!! I'm glad he didn't let the painting mishap stonewall the project.
That's a good tip to keep in mind.

Looking forward to seeing it at the next meeting.

Thanks Ray...appreciate the comments.

Although the clear-coating issue didn't completely stall the project, it did delay the progress for several months...it was a bit demoralizing as you can imagine, especially after the paint worked out so well and the success with all the body mods.

I was pleasantly surprised when Nick's idea worked! :D This was his first attempt at applying Future with a brush, so I doubt he'll return to that method. We have no idea why the finish shattered on the first coat, but the airbrushing seems more reliable and will likely be the way he applies it in the future (no pun intended)...if he uses Future again.

Cheers,
Brad
